This post shares mindset hacks to lose the baby weight without losing your milk supply.
With pregnancy come many bodily changes. These changes show up in different ways. Your body’s needs, weight gain, new thoughts, and many other things change to get ready to welcome a new life. Your body starts adjusting itself to protect your growing baby for nine months or more. Then, once your baby is born, you’re wanting to quickly lose all the weight you gained. With these mindset hacks to lose the baby weight, you’ll be well on your way to feeling your healthiest as a new mom.
One of the adjustments that your body makes is it gains weight as it starts storing fat to make milk and to provide your baby ample nutrients and protection. A mom should gain an average of 25-35 pounds during pregnancy, including the weight of the baby, placenta, and uterus. Healthy weight gain is a good thing, but seeing it in the mirror doesn’t always give you warm fuzzy feelings.
After pregnancy, a lot of mamas struggle to get their bodies in shape. This is totally normal, as we expect to “bounce back” after our baby is born. It takes time though, and a lot of grace with ourselves. The thoughts we have influence how we look and may even keep us holding on to unwanted baby weight because we are holding on to negative thoughts and emotions. So if you are struggling to lose the baby weight, while breastfeeding especially, then you may need to transform your mindset first in order to lose weight.
Mindset Hacks to Lose the Baby Weight
These are the best mindset tips that I often share with my private clients that help them feel better about themselves, get in shape, and get them fitting into that favorite dress again.
Embrace Your New Body
All moms go through the frustrating phase in life where they cannot fit into their old dresses. You may feel like changing your whole wardrobe, but have patience and you’ll likely fit back into them before you know it.
Your body took care of your baby for at least nine months and it just accomplished a huge miracle so embrace your new body in all of its imperfections. The sooner you can speak kindly to your body and praise it for being so miraculous, the sooner you can make changes.
This body made you a mom of a sweet baby who has made your life even more colorful. So, why dislike it when it helped you go through all the pregnancy changes and create a baby? Your new body is stronger and better than before. It is not going to be the same again, and that’s okay! You are transformed into a mommy now and no transformation can happen without a change.
Accept the New Challenges with Open Arms
You went through a lot to bring a new life to this world. You went through labor and so much more which proves your body’s amazing ability to do amazing things.
Keep reminding yourself of how you accepted all the changes during pregnancy and delivery. It will motivate you to test your limits and work hard on your body to get it healthy. If your body can gain weight to adjust according to the pregnancy needs, then it can shed those extra pounds as well. There is no doubt that it is easier said than done. But if you believe in yourself, you will not only accomplish your goals but will also enjoy the whole weight loss journey.
Set a Realistic Approach
After accepting challenges, you must set realistic goals and use a practical approach to lose your baby weight. It took you nine months to gain that all weight so if you are planning to lose the whole weight in four to five months then you are not only fooling yourself but are also putting yourself under unnecessary pressure.
Your body shape changes to give birth to a life, it accomplished a huge achievement. Now it is nourishing the baby as well. So, set a realistic approach by keeping in mind all these factors. Setting unrealistic goals will only make you more stressed which may have the opposite effect on your body.
Give Your Mind and Body Some Rest
Feeding a newborn who gets hungry every other hour is not easy at all. You can easily count the hours of sleep you get a day. Your life gets transformed completely. So, your body needs time to be healed and adjust according to the changes.
Rest as much as you can. Your body and mind both need a break to get the power and energy for the tasks as a new mom. Try to develop your baby’s sleeping habits and use the time to sleep yourself. You can also ask your mother, sister, or friend to keep an eye on your baby while you get some rest.
Practice Meditation to Clear Stressful Thoughts
Make healthy choices in life. Because now, not only do you have to take care of yourself, but there is another little soul that relies on you completely. Take a few minutes a day to slow down your pace and practice deep breathing.
Connect with yourself. Talk to yourself and make your intentions clear. Taking care of a baby can be very tiring if you are a new mother, so you may not find time for yourself. But remember that you cannot neglect yourself to take care of your baby. You have to listen to your body as well.
So take some time, sit down alone, and release all the stressful negative thoughts from your mind. Make meditation a part of your life because you will need it a lot to keep yourself collected and sane. In my L.E.A.N. Mamas program, I include a 5-minute meditation that you can easily listen to each morning while you nurse to start your day off right.
Do Not Compare Your Mom Bod with Someone Else’s
We are all unique the way we are. Our faces, bodies, mentality, everything else do not match exactly with the face, body, or mentality of anyone else. A lot of moms, when they do not see any progress in their weight loss journey, start worrying that there is something wrong with their body because someone else lost the baby weight in a few months.
Remember that we all have different bodies. You are you and no one else can be like you. So, if your friend shed her baby weight in a few months then that does not mean your body will do the same. You have to put in all your effort and believe in your body. Time will show you the perfect results.
Give Yourself Time
There are many articles or diet plans available on the internet for breastfeeding moms to lose their baby weight. Many may claim that they work miracles and you can lose your body weight in only a few months but that is not how a healthy weight loss plan works.
It is a process and you will have to wait to see the results of all your efforts. Your body needs time to get back to its shape naturally. Do not push your body too far. It will not only affect your mental health in a bad way but you may end up gaining even more weight.
